Semester at a glance available below. A calendar is an excellent tool for planning out the bigger picture of your semester.

Some tips for semester at a glance/long-range planning:

  • Always think about your final assessments/evaluation, both the end of the unit and the end of course, when planning. There should be no surprises, for students or for you as an educator, from the data that comes from the assessment and evaluation tasks.

  • When planning, be mindful of events happening in the various communities. Link your classroom planning calendar with religious holidays and school events. This practice will benefit the students’ well-being in the long run.

  • Remember: be flexible with your original deadlines and due dates and plan some extra time at the end of the semester. Plans can change, especially once you meet the students at the beginning of the term. After you get to know the students, set deadlines that meet their learning needs and co-construct checkpoints to not only involve students in the assessment process, but to teach important time management and critical thinking skills.

  • Link your long range plans to your course of study. Try out these prompts when planning.
